Candidates must be Indian nationals and should be under 28 years of age as of the last date of application. Age relaxation is applicable for specific categories: up to 3 years for Other Backward Class Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) applicants, 5 years for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe applicants, and 10 years for persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD) applicants.

Academic Qualifications

I. Candidates should have a consistently strong academic record, with a minimum of 60% aggregate in BSc. and 55% aggregate in MSc. from a recognized university.

II. a. Candidates awaiting the final results of their MSc. Degree may also apply. Such candidates must upload copies of their BSc. Degree mark sheets and MSc. first-year mark sheets with their applications. These candidates should have scored above 60% aggregate until the previous semester/year and a minimum of 60% aggregate in BSc. level.

b. Selected candidates who are still pursuing their MSc. should secure a minimum of 55% marks in the MSc. examination and submit their MSc. Degree and mark sheet during the interview.

c. Candidates with a five-year integrated MSc. degree should have secured a minimum of 55% aggregate in MSc./B.S.-M.S. (Dual degree).

III. Relevant certificates for the above qualifications must be submitted upon joining the Centre. CGPA/GPA scores should be converted to percentages using the prescribed formula.

FELLOWSHIP AND TENURE The selected candidates will initially be appointed as Junior Research Fellows (JRF) and will receive a monthly fellowship of Rs. 31,000/-. The fellowship will be granted for an initial period of two years. The continuation of the fellowship is subject to satisfactory performance and yearly reviews. Upon satisfactory performance, the Fellowship will be extended and upgraded to Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) from the third year onwards, with a consolidated fellowship of Rs. 35,000/- per month. The maximum duration of the fellowship shall not exceed five years. Additionally, candidates are entitled to a contingency grant, including a book allowance of Rs. 40,000/- per year.

ACCOMMODATION Selected candidates will be provided with subsidized hostel accommodation. As the Ph.D. program is a residential program, staying in the provided hostel accommodation is mandatory (wherever hostel accommodation is available). In stations without provided hostel accommodation, candidates will receive House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per prevailing Government guidelines (currently HRA is 27% of the Fellowship, i.e., Rs. 8,370/- per month for JRF and Rs. 9,450/- per month for SRF in Mumbai).

CANCELLATION OF CANDIDATURE Candidates are advised not to provide incomplete, false, misleading, or defective information or submit any forged, fabricated, or inadmissible documents. Any fraudulent claims regarding SC/ST/OBC/Person with Disability status or engaging in malpractice during the selection process will result in cancellation of candidature or selection, along with potential legal action. Candidates must present a printout of the Application, a valid ORIGINAL photo identity card (such as Voter ID, Driving License, AADHAR Card, Passport, College ID), original marksheets/certificates, and one set of self-attested photocopies of all documents during the interview.

Important Notes:

  1. The Application is considered received only after the successful upload of required documents by the last date. These documents include the filled online application, uploaded signature and photograph, prescribed fee, and relevant certificates and mark sheets.
