About the Saavedra Lab

Position Overview

The Research Assistant will play a crucial role in day-to-day lab operations while also having the opportunity to develop their own research project. This position is perfect for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience before pursuing graduate school, medical school, or other scientific career goals. Experienced candidates may be considered for a Lab Manager position with corresponding compensation.


  • Mouse Colony Management: Oversee and manage the mouse colony.
  • Lab Management: Order and organize inventory to ensure smooth lab operations.
  • Research Support: Collaborate with researchers to support various research projects.
  • Lab Meetings: Attend and actively participate in lab meetings, sharing updates on your work.


  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Understanding of basic biochemistry and molecular biology techniques.
  • Animal Handling: Willingness to work with live animals, specifically mice.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work proactively and collaboratively as part of a diverse and dynamic team.
