Position Details

  • Position: Junior Research Fellow – 1
  • Department: Chemical Engineering
  • Project Title: IKS Center for Kalamkari Art, Natural Farming, and Food Preservation at IIT Tirupati
  • Sponsoring Agency: Indian Knowledge Systems, AICTE, Ministry of Education
  • Consolidated Monthly Salary: Rs. 31,000 per month + HRA
  • Tenure of Assignment: Initially 6 months, renewable up to 2 years based on performance and funding availability

Eligibility Criteria

  • Education: Master’s in Chemistry or Bachelor/Master in Chemical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Biotechnology / equivalent discipline
  • Preferred Qualification: NET/GATE qualified candidates

Desired Experience and Responsibilities

The successful candidate should have:

  • Exposure to experimental research on process/product development, including equipment design.
  • Willingness to work on standardized processes for the preparation of natural dyes and dyeing processes, including mechanization to enhance efficiency.
  • Expertise in the characterization and standardization of the natural dye preparation process, including scale-up.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, self-motivated, and willing to undertake field trips and work under challenging research conditions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, along with a commitment to ethical work practices.

Project Overview

The project aims to decipher the chemistry behind natural dyes prepared using traditional methods, standardize the preparation and dyeing process for consistent quality, and make them adaptable to changing weather conditions. This project involves the standardization of Kamakari dye preparation and dyeing processes, process demonstration, and training generation primarily for tribal and rural youth.
