Role: R&D Associate – HC Pilot Plant
Role Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to maintain optimal operations within the pilot plant. You will be responsible for supporting end users in conducting trials, managing inventory, and overseeing waste disposal. Collaboration with various teams within Unilever, including OPEX and USHEC, will be essential for successful pilot plant investments, new installations, and adherence to safety standards.
About the Role
The HC R&D Bangalore team is looking for an experienced graduate or diploma holder who possesses a passion for processing and pilot plant operations. As a multi-tasker, you will collaborate with different HC teams and serve as a crucial connector between site OPEX and HC end users. Your responsibilities will include supporting HC developers, engineers, and end users in prototype preparation for various R&D studies, ensuring smooth pilot plant operations.
Accountability
- Ensuring the pilot plant is ready for requested trials by end users.
- Maintaining records of pilot plant trials, equipment usage, safety audits, and trainings.
- Managing Standard Operating Procedures documentation and controls.
- Organizing work with contractors and vendors for new installations and safety compliances.
- Coordinating equipment maintenance and calibration with site equipment owners.
- Troubleshooting with engineers, developers, and end users as needed.
- Managing raw material inventory and ordering, as well as monitoring pilot plant stock.
- Identifying, monitoring, and mitigating chemical hazards regularly.
- Coordinating waste disposal according to approved practices.
- Participating in risk assessments and partnering with USHEC.
Qualifications and Skills
Desired Qualifications:
- B.Sc. in Chemistry or Diploma in chemical, mechanical, or process engineering.
- 1-3 years’ experience in an operating environment.
Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Knowledge of processing equipment principles and practices.
- Strong learning mindset.
- Operations management skills (scheduling, organizing, executing).
Desirable but Not Mandatory:
- Experience in product/process development, scale up, and technology transfer.
- Experience in risk assessment.
