A Clinical Research Associate (CRA) is a professional who is responsible for coordinating and monitoring clinical trials, which are research studies that involve testing new medications or medical devices in humans. The specific responsibilities of a Clinical Research Associate may include:
- Coordinating and managing the various aspects of a clinical trial, including recruitment of study participants, tracking enrollment and follow-up, and ensuring that the study is conducted according to the approved protocol
- Monitoring the study sites to ensure that the trial is being conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and all applicable laws and regulations
- Reviewing and verifying data from the study sites to ensure that it is accurate and complete
- Communicating with the study sites, sponsors, and regulatory agencies as needed
- Preparing and submitting reports and other documentation related to the trial
To be successful in this role, Clinical Research Associates should have strong organizational and communication skills, as well as a good understanding of GCP and relevant laws and regulations. A background in a scientific or healthcare field is also helpful.
