The Department of Biotechnology, under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, introduces the Biotech Industrial Training Programme (BITP) 2023-24

Applications are invited from bonafide Indian citizens residing in India for hands-on training in Industry. The DBT Biotech Industrial Training Program provides an excellent opportunity for biotech students who have completed their education and intend to start their career in Industry. This program aims to equip participants with practical skills and experience by working on projects alongside industry experts. Additionally, it offers an opportunity for the industry to identify potential candidates for their human resource requirements. The training period for the DBT Biotech Industrial Training Program is six months, during which a stipend will be paid to trainees. A bench fee of Rs. 23,350/- per candidate will also be paid to companies to cover expenses towards training.

The DBT Biotech Industrial Training Program is being implemented by DBT-HRD Project Management Unit at Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad, on behalf of the Department of Biotechnology. Requisitions are invited from companies operating in areas of biotechnology & life sciences, including Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, Diagnostics, Agri-Biotechnology, Biomedical, Environmental, Industrial Biotechnology, Therapeutics, Genomics & Proteomics, Bio-services, Veterinary, Bioinformatics, and Computational Biotechnology, Contract research & manufacturing, Intellectual property, Food industry, etc. The companies interested in providing hands-on training for six months are required to fill the ‘Requisition Form,’ which can be downloaded from the RCB website (https://rcb.res.in/DBTBITP/). Duly filled and signed ‘Requisition Forms’ shall be submitted to bitp.dbt@rcb.res.in.

About the DBT Biotech Industrial Training Program (BITP) 2023-24

The BITP 2023-24 offers a six-month training opportunity for biotech students, allowing them to work on real projects alongside industry experts. This program serves as a gateway for companies to identify potential talent for their human resource needs. The training will include a stipend for trainees and a bench fee for companies to cover training expenses.

Eligibility: Students with B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc./M.Tech./M.VSc./MBA in Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics and students admitted under DBT PG teaching program in Biotechnology are eligible for the DBT Biotech Industrial Training Program. The degree should be from an Indian recognized university with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grades completed in the year 2020-21, 2021-22, or 2022-23 academic sessions.

Mode of Selection: Candidates will be selected based on a computer-based test conducted in multiple cities/centers across the country. The selection process is subject to meeting the eligibility criteria. The trainer company will be provided based on availability.

Detailed information on filling the application form, payment of the application fee, and uploading of required documents/certificates in the prescribed format is available on the website.

Stipend Structure: DBT will disburse a stipend of Rs. 10,000/- per candidate per month upon successful completion of six months of training and assessment. Students will also receive a minimum stipend of Rs. 9,000/- per month from trainer companies for the training period, as per apprenticeship norms.

Certification: After completion of training, trainees will undergo an online ‘Assessment’ conducted by Sector Skill Council. Trainees who qualify the Assessment will be awarded the ‘Apprenticeship Certificate’ under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) by Sector Skill Council.
