Research Associate / Senior Research Associate (Synthesis)

Key Responsibilities:

• Work collaboratively in a team to drive chemistry projects forward.
• Responsible for safe conduct of reactions.

General proficiency

• Knowledge of organic chemistry.
• Able to write a procedure for a series of reactions leading up to a final product to enable compound submissions.
• Familiar with laboratory techniques – in particular, the RA should be proficient with the general tasks and skills required for their given project or functional area; day-to-day guidance may still be required, but specific tasks may be conducted independently.
• Understand Medicinal Chemistry and SAR pertaining to the specific project they are working on. Know the potency and general SAR direction of a current series of compounds.
• Familiar with chemistry database searches – the RA should be able to conduct basic searches of topics provided by the Group Leader.

Areas for development

• Able to independently write a procedure for a series of reactions leading up to a final product to enable submissions.
• Begin reading scientific literature with a focus on understanding process and methodology, including interpretation of analytical results such as NMR.
• Become familiar with more advanced laboratory techniques.
• Start to independently troubleshoot and resolve minor setbacks.
